“Climb higher, look further” is the name of the new book by Kochler mountain photographer Bernd Ritschel.

It was published by Tyrolia-Verlag.

Kochel am See – Bernd Ritschel, who grew up in Wolfratshausen and has lived in Kochel since 1999, has made a name for himself over 40 years as a freelance photographer, especially as a mountain photographer and publisher of illustrated books.

Now the 60-year-old has brought out a new work that was published by Tyrolia Verlag - not one of the usual kilo-heavy hams, but a small-format, narrow booklet with very atmospheric mountain and landscape photos from the entire Alpine region, in a handy mini format only 18 by 15 centimeters.

“Climb higher, see further” describes the happiness of being in the mountains.

The full-page images are accompanied by “mountain messages”: short, meaningful wisdom from well-known poets such as Mark Twain and Matthias Claudius, from the Innsbruck “mountaineer bishop” Reinhold Stecher or mountaineers such as Edward Whymper, Reinhard Karl and Heinz Zak.

Inspirational messages

Bernd Ritschel recently gave a lecture in his home community about the “Holy Mountains of Europe”.

He also addresses the spiritual side of the mountains in his new book, when he has Reinhold Stecher say: “The mountains bring you into peace.

A small piece of the timelessly sovereign demeanor of the mountains can be passed on to us." Bernd Ritschel concludes: "With its inspiring messages, this little book is suitable as a gift book for all those for whom the mountain experience and the moments of happiness associated with it are balm for body and soul. “From time to time you just need a new point of view so that you can see the world with different eyes again.
