Between big names in the high-end global hotel industry and independent owners crazy about heritage, Marrakech collects legendary addresses. Our selection of ten places to dream under the palms of the Red City.

Refined palaces buried in breathtaking gardens or modern oases planted in the heart of the city, Marrakech has never had so many prestigious hotels lined up.

Timeless refuges designed for optimal disconnection, they are also most often wonderful showcases of a centuries-old art of living which is expressed as much in architecture and craftsmanship as in gastronomy or well-being.

From the very select Hivernage district to the fringes of the medina, our 10 addresses for an exceptional stay.

To invent the future you have to have roots: such is the motto of this emblematic hotel of Moroccan heritage, the only one that has pushed refinement so far in its reinterpretation of the codes of the ancestral art of living.

In this ideal medina buried in a lush six-hectare estate, no rooms or floors but 53 private riads (1 or 2 bedrooms) with terraces nestled in the bend of alleys, of opulent dimensions and decoration.

This has a price of course, the address is unique!

The room to book:

a Premier riad with a small swimming pool on the roof terrace.

We like:

the high-end restaurants, including the new Grande Brasserie by Hélène Darroze, multi-starred, and the spa with its airy decor and exceptional treatments.

Memory of Marrakech in the 1960s, this refined resort is first and foremost the story of a family which, for three generations, has cultivated tradition and innovation, drawing on both cultures, French and Moroccan, an unrivaled sense of hospitality, that of a large house.

A true Eden, its 8-hectare green park in the heart of Hivernage is the scene of discreet hedonism, to be experienced in the cocoon of the palace with its decor inspired by the Orient of 1001 Nights and its 90 spacious and elegant suites ( 70m2 to 141 m2) with a view of the Atlas, the eight 2-bedroom ksars or the 10 exceptional villas with garden (and private swimming pool for the most part).

The customers are not mistaken: a third are regulars!

The room to reserve:

a corner suite for the two separate spaces, bedroom and living room and double orientation.

We like:

the quality of the gastronomy drawn from the homemade organic vegetable garden, the Spa, a holistic setting with state-of-the-art treatments (including “shirodhara”, an Ayurvedic anti-stress treatment), the two indoor and outdoor swimming pools (including 300m2 heated by solar winter) and the collection of modern and contemporary Moroccan art, unique!

At the gates of the city, under the classic exterior of an Arab-Andalusian palace, this is undoubtedly the most unusual address in Marrakech.

Green paddocks where the thoroughbreds from the family stud farm perform, signature of the premises, huge swimming pool (80 meters!), sophisticated fitness treatments with one of the six Chenot spas in the world... The palace which celebrated its tenth anniversary years in 2023 announces the arrival in the spring of starred chef Jean-François Piège, one more argument for settling down in this haven of peace on a human scale (55 keys).

A stone's throw from Jemaa El Fna, we forget the noise of the city in this urban oasis built in the style of riads: the main building and its 85 rooms and suites is built in a U around the large swimming pool (26.6 mx 15 ,40m) heated to 28°.

Next door, in a labyrinth of medina-style alleys, 26 ultra-contemporary riads of 3, 4 and 6 bedrooms with a small private swimming pool, welcome families or groups of friends.

More mineral than vegetal, the address is a subtle mix of Barrière spirit (including Fouquet's) and local touches such as the calligraphy on a gold background punctuating the ebony and ivory tones of the lobby.

The room to reserve:

a room on the 1st floor for more light.

Amanjena, zen paradise

Amanjena, Zen paradise designed by architect Ed Tuttle.

Phot oppresses

Reconciling Moroccan tradition and Asian minimalism: this is the aim of this Zen paradise whose stripped-down architecture by Ed Tuttle skillfully plays with local codes to create dazzling arcade games and reflections in the pools and mirrors of water.

As rooms, 40 “Pavillons” (16 with 25m2 swimming pool) and “Houses with garden and fountain”, real little palaces (175m2 to 1130 m2) are wildly intimate and elegantly pure.

12 km from the city center, you quickly feel out of the world, especially if you take advantage of the spa with wellness retreats lasting half a day, a day or 3 days.

The room to book:

a “Pavilion” with swimming pool and outdoor pavilion/lounge.

the refinement and eclecticism of the gastronomy (Moroccan, Italian, Japanese and Mediterranean cuisine).

Mandarin Oriental Marrakech, gardens, luxury and voluptuousness

Earth and sand colors and a vast oasis-style swimming pool buried in 20 hectares of greenery (including 100,000 roses!)… At the gates of the Al Maaden golf course, the Berber world inspired the architects of this luxurious address whose spirit nevertheless remains very contemporary notably in the 7 suites and 54 XXL-sized villas (1, 2 or 3 bedrooms) with small heated swimming pool.

At the table, the inspiration is more or less distant: in addition to a Cantonese restaurant recalling the group's origins, there are oriental specialties, as well as North African and Mediterranean ones.

The room to book:

a suite with Atlas view in winter, a villa in summer.

We like:

the superb 1800m2 spa and its heated indoor swimming pool with a view of the gardens, and the new artistic space.

La Mamounia, the icon of Marrakech

La Mamounia in Marrakech, the expert opinion of Le Figaro

Iconic since its opening in 1923, La Mamounia had to celebrate its centenary with style.

It's done with a final bath of youth orchestrated by the duo Patrick Jouin and Sanjit Manku.

Exit the dark tones, the new Mamounia reconnects with the light which warms the lobby, the lounges and the Majorelle bar adorned with chiseled glass panels echoing the shimmer of the garden's vegetation.

With its 13 hectares on the edge of the medina, punctuated by a large heated swimming pool, it is the main asset and the ancestor of the place, its origins dating back to the 18th century!

The room to book:

a Deluxe Parc room with a view of the gardens.

Four Seasons Resort Marrakech, a contemporary setting

Four Seasons Resort Marrakech, a contemporary setting.

Richard Waite

At the gates of M Avenue, the new luxury artery of Marrakech, the large estate (16 hectares) of the Four Seasons contrasts with its lush vegetation where 139 rooms and suites are nestled throughout the main building and the pretty pavilions.

A recent renovation strengthens the local roots: saffron, green or lemon yellow tones have warmed up the modern-style decoration.

A seminar hotel, it is also perfectly suited to leisure trips with a kids club open all year round and activities for teenagers including dedicated treatments in its beautiful spa with mosaic-paved hammam.

The room to book:

a room in a pavilion and for a higher budget a suite with private swimming pool.

We like:

The Oberoi Marrakech, a spectacular setting.

A succession of pools in the Arab-Andalusian style so long that it took the name "canal", a sumptuous patio modeled on that of the Ben Youssef Madrasa, the jewel of the medina, and terraces with a view of a sea of olive trees at the foot of the Atlas… A tribute to the Marinid architecture of the 14th century, Oberoi Marrakech looks like an ideal palace with its decor punctuated by domes and arcades.

The key is 84 rooms including 77 villas with a large swimming pool and garden, like so many promises of disconnection: the establishment has created a unique well-being program, to be experienced in the sumptuous setting of its 2000m2 spa.

The room to book:

a luxury villa (72m2) with private swimming pool (9 m long).
