It is his second book.

After “Leonhardifahrt”, the author Kurt Kment, who comes from Tölz, has now published another novel with a strong connection to his homeland.

This time it's about the Schnabler race.

Bad Tölz/Gaißach - After the success of his first local crime novel about a bomb threat at the Tölzer Leonhardifahrt, author Kurt Kment got back to work and wrote another book with a lot of local color.

This time the Gaißach Schnabler Race mutates into a stage for an exciting crime story.

It is winter.

The first preparations for the traditional Schnabler race are underway in Gaißach when the Schnabler club's barn suddenly explodes.

A short time later, a witness to the attack was found.

Dead.

Inspector Besner, who already acts as the protagonist in the first crime novel by the Tölz-born author Kurt Kment, comes with his team to clarify the background to the crime.

Kment wants people to recognize the Tölzer Land in his books

“After my first crime novel was published, I started writing the sequel three years ago,” remembers Kment.

“I wanted to take up another major event from the region.

After the Leonhardi trip, the Schnabler race was obvious.” Kment also knows Gaißach, the residents and their peculiarities well.

“It was like a second home for me for a long time, so I had fun addressing the solitary nature that the people of Gaißach are said to be,” explains the geoscientist.

Incidentally, this is exactly why the investigators from Weilheim fail in the plot.

They can't get close to the close-knit village community.

It quickly became clear to him that the heroes – Inspector Besner and his friend Kehrer – should investigate again, says Kment.

As a varied subplot, a romance develops between the inspector and his colleague.

Many ideas arise from Kment's everyday life.

“For example, Inspector Besner regularly arranges to go running with an organic farmer for research purposes.” This idea came to him during his own jogging sessions, says Kment.

It is still unclear whether there will be a third volume

Despite his good local knowledge, the author, who now lives in Teisendorf in Berchtesgadener Land, met and exchanged ideas with the board of the Schnabler Association.

Ultimately, his aim is to describe the events surrounding the race as authentically as possible.

A lot of things are taken from life.

“The places are called what they are actually called, and I also made the constant traffic jams around Bad Tölz a topic,” says Kment.

At the same time, of course, there are also some fictitious elements in the story.

It's the mixture that makes it.

“My aim is that you can recognize Bad Tölz and the surrounding area through something other than just the 'Bull of Tölz'.” His role model when writing was, not least, Alpine and local crime novels.

Is a third volume being planned?

“I have a lot of ideas floating around in my head, but I just have to make sure I get it done in time,” says Kment, laughing.

The author works full-time in the wood industry.

Now he's hoping for a similarly good and positive response to his first book.

“And then we’ll see what happens next.”
