Taufkirchen is reducing trade tax in order to be attractive to companies.

But the community has to make do with less money and forego projects.

Taufkirchen

– The municipality of Taufkirchen expects two million euros less trade tax revenue this year.

In 2023 it was 18.6 million euros.

The reason for the decline is the municipality's decision to reduce the assessment rate from 310 to 250 percent.

With the reduction, Taufkirchen hopes to attract more companies and then benefit in the future.

That's how long it takes to hold on.

But this is not that easy.

Despite the 6.2 million euro buffer that the municipality has set aside in recent years, there will be a short-term deficit in the budget.

In addition, the municipality has to pay almost all of the trade tax to the district as a district levy.

“Now it’s time to set priorities,” says treasurer Jan Gradl.

“There is no skate park.

The focus is on daycare, schools and streets.”

Removals in the areas of town hall, fire department and sports park

Even the preparation of the current budget was a “mammoth task” for Gradl and his team.

“We checked with all departments several times to see what we could delete,” says Gradl.

Now he will have to knock again.

The finance administration wants to cut another 15 percent of the planned spending in the 2024 budget by the budget meeting next week.

The Finance Committee decided this at the most recent meeting.

Removals are primarily planned in the areas of the town hall, fire department and sports park.

Mayor Ullrich Sander (independent) expresses concerns about the cuts.

The community has been doing many things for five years.

“What are we cutting out?” asks Sander.

“Where do we start?” At the information board at the town hall or at the skate park?

SPD local councilor warns of renovation backlog

Rosemarie Weber (SPD) also has a stomach ache.

“We push and push,” she says.

“At some point we will have a renovation backlog.

In terms of long-term planning, we won't get anywhere with 100 million.” Sander then assures us that money would come in through property sales in the next three months.

Gradl hopes to receive the eight million euros in funding for primary school construction in May.

Competition for the most attractive location

With the reduction in the assessment rate, Taufkirchen has entered the competition for the most attractive location in the Munich metropolitan region.

In order to win, the community must stick to its austerity measures.

She hopes to receive her reward by 2028 at the latest.

Through economic development, more companies should settle and add money to the household budget.

Until then, Weber sums it up: “It doesn’t help.

We must die a death.”
