The controversial Growth Opportunities Act ends up before the Mediation Committee on Wednesday.

The Union is taking a stand and an agreement seems unlikely.

Berlin – Christian Lindner (FDP) is once again asking the CDU to approve the growth package he is planning.

“I appeal to the Union to stop blocking the Growth Opportunities Act,” he emphasized in an interview with the Editorial Network Germany.

An “economic turnaround” is urgently needed to stimulate Germany’s economy.

But the Union is linking its vote to a return to the agricultural diesel subsidy.

The mediation committee is supposed to settle the dispute.

The traffic light package provides tax relief amounting to 3.2 billion euros annually for companies, and approval procedures are also to be accelerated.

The Federal Council blocked the law passed in November 2023 because the financing burden on the states was too high.

The federal states led by the Union particularly complain about the withdrawn subsidies for agricultural diesel.

“It cannot be the case that farmers pay for the relief on the German economy as a whole,” said Union faction deputy Mathias Middelberg in an interview with the German Press Agency.

The traffic light parties, on the other hand, want to pass the Growth Opportunities Act as quickly as possible.

“Our companies deserve relief.

This is the only way we can create new dynamics in our country,” said Christian Lindner to the RND.

The law must now be made watertight as quickly as possible.

Manuela Schwesig, SPD Prime Minister of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and chairwoman of the Mediation Committee, also confirmed on

: “I would be very much in favor of us reaching a result today.”

Lindner: Negotiations with Union only after approval of the growth package

Lindner also emphasized in the Bundestag his willingness to negotiate with the Union about corporate tax reform - but only if it agreed to the growth package.

“We are happy to extend our hand to any collaboration.

But it cannot be the case that one top performer is pitted against other top performers,” reacted CSU MP Florian Oßner.

Until then there would still be time to set up a working group to reach an agreement.
