Bank notes bearing the image of King Charles III will be put into circulation from next June in the United Kingdom, the Bank of England announced this Wednesday in a press release.
The banknotes bearing the portrait of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, who died in September 2022, “will continue to be legal tender and will circulate alongside the banknotes of King Charles III”, indicated the central bank, responsible for their printing .

The new banknotes will be printed gradually from June 5 “solely to replace those which are worn out and to respond to any overall increase in demand for banknotes”, specifies the press release, “in accordance with the directives of the Royal Household, in order to minimize the environmental and financial impact of this change.
“The portrait of the king will appear on the existing models of the four British notes”, of 5 pounds (

The general public will also be able to exchange a limited value of current or old notes for new Charles III notes, through the Bank of England, for a short period from the date of issue.
At the beginning of December 2022, 50 pence coins bearing the profile of Charles III had already appeared in British wallets.
