The citizens of Grünheide have rejected Tesla's plans to expand the factory site.
Now Prime Minister Woidke is making an appeal to the company.
Grünheide - Brandenburg's Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke (SPD) has called on the US car manufacturer Tesla to give in after citizens in Grünheide voted against the planned factory expansion.
“The citizens exercised their democratic rights.
Now it’s about Tesla and the community of Grünheide evaluating the information and concerns and responding to them,” said Woidke on Wednesday in Potsdam.
He also called for more communication: “It is important that Tesla communicates more aggressively and transparently with the public.”
In addition to the existing factory site, Tesla wants to build a freight yard, warehouses and a company kindergarten on around 170 hectares.
To achieve this, more than 100 hectares of forest will be cleared.
In a citizen survey, around two thirds voted against these plans.
The local council still has to approve the development plan.
The survey is not binding, but is considered an important signal.
The settlement is currently the largest industrial company in Brandenburg with around 12,500 employees.
