The move from Florida to Sweden fell through last year, but Princess Madeleine's family will finally return to their old home in 2024.

Pinecrest – Princess Leonore celebrated her 10th birthday on February 20th.

And despite her young age, the daughter of Princess Madeleine (41) and Chris O'Neill (49) has already had an eventful life.

Leonore was born in New York, then the family lived in London for some time before Pinecrest, Florida, became their new home in 2018.

“Big change”: Princess Madeleine wants to return to Sweden with her family in 2024

After the planned move of Princess Madeleine, Chris O'Neill and the children Leonore, Nicolas (8) and Adrienne (5) in the summer of 2023 was canceled at short notice, the family still lives in Florida.

However, Stockholm will finally become the new center of life for Madeleine and her loved ones this year, even if the Swedish royal family has not yet announced the exact moving date.

Not an easy situation for Princess Madeleine and husband Chris, but the circumstances are also special for the children.

“It will be a big upheaval, as it would be for any child,” royal expert Marianne Singer tells

The uncertainty may also have had an impact on Princess Leonore's birthday.

“It will probably be the last birthday Leonore celebrates while she still lives in the USA.”

New school, new friends: The move means a big change for Princess Madeleine's children

Princess Leonore's birthday was probably bittersweet.

Because even though mom Madeleine and dad Chris certainly did everything they could to ensure that their eldest daughter had a wonderful day, there was probably also a touch of melancholy.

“Although she knows Sweden, has family in the country and can speak Swedish, there is no doubt that there is probably some sadness and longing in her too.

It’s a special birthday,” said Marianne Singer.

The whole family feels comfortable in Florida, they enjoy far more anonymity there than in Sweden, “where everyone knows who they are.” Nevertheless, Princess Madeleine and Chris O'Neill seem to want to go through with the move despite the delay.

“It seems like they really want their children to go to a Swedish school, and I'm sure it will be very good for all of them,” Singer predicts.

And Leonore will also be looking forward to her cousin and her cousins, even if, unlike Estelle and Oscar, the palace ignored Princess Madeleine's daughter's birthday.
