Highlights: The Eisenhofen-Hirtlbach Warrior and Soldier Comradeship is celebrating its 150th anniversary in July. The trigger for the founding of the comradeship was the so-called German War in 1866 between Austria and Prussia. “Due to the cruel world wars, our main task has developed into being an advocate for peace. It is our job to remember the horrors of war. The fallen, missing and all victims of war or tyranny must not be forgotten,” explains the chairman of the festival committee, Georg Schöngruber.

The Eisenhofen-Hirtlbach Warrior and Soldier Comradeship is celebrating its 150th anniversary in July.

Eisenhofen-Hirtlbach – The Eisenhofen-Hirtlbach Warrior and Soldier Comradeship is celebrating its 150th anniversary in July.

The preparations are already in full swing.

The trigger for the founding of the comradeship was the so-called German War in 1866 between Austria and Prussia.

It was probably one of the first clubs to be founded at that time, even before fire departments and shooting clubs came into being.

The main and base club was Arnbach, founded in 1867. 66 places were affiliated to this main club.

They were called outskirts and also paid their contributions to Arnbach.

The admission fee for each member was 50 Reichspfennigs, and the annual contribution per member was 45 Reichspfennigs.

In 1872, Eisenhofen with Hof, Neusreuth, Petersberg, Hirtlbach and Hörgenbach already had 37 members in the Arnbach association register.

In 1874, however, the veterans and soldiers from Eisenhofen, Hof, Hirtlbach, Neusreuth, Hörgenbach and Petersberg separated from the Arnbach base association and founded their own association.

The statutes were adopted by Arnbach.

This is how the Eisenhofen-Hirtlbach Veterans and Warriors Association came into being in 1874.

The fallen and missing in the wars must not be forgotten

When the Veterans and Soldiers' Association was founded in 1874, the aim was to spread comradeship and communal get-together to former soldiers and citizens "in the sense of previously acquired military education in civil, moral and religious life.

“To bring love and loyalty to God, King and Fatherland to perfection” as it says in the statutes.

“Due to the cruel world wars, our main task has developed into being an advocate for peace.

It is our job to remember the horrors of war.

The fallen, missing and all victims of war or tyranny must not be forgotten,” explains the chairman of the festival committee, Georg Schöngruber.

Young people must be motivated to live in camaraderie and friendly cohesion as the best prerequisite for a community.

That's why the Eisenhofen-Hirtlbach Soldiers' Comradeship has been traveling to war cemetery sites since the mid-1980s.

So we were together with the soldiers' association from Großberghofen in France, Hungary, northern Italy and Poland.

These trips made everyone aware of how important the German War Graves Commission is, explains Schöngruber.

So far the comradeship has been able to continuously attract new members.

In 2017, the general meeting also decided to admit women.

Since then there have also been nine female members, “which makes us very happy,” as the chairman emphasizes.

Because “we are not worried about the continued existence of our comradeship”.

Process of the anniversary celebration

The 150th anniversary is to be celebrated over two days.

On Friday, July 19th, at 8 p.m., a memorial service will take place in Eisenhofen, St. Alban Church, together with the sponsoring association from Großberghofen and the patron, Erdweg Mayor Christian Blatt, as well as all local associations from Eisenhofen and Hirtlbach.

Afterwards, there will be a ceremonial serenade with a wreath-laying at the war memorial with the Eisenhofen brass band, reinforced by the Seratiner music band from Hirtlbach.

After this ceremonial act, everyone moves to Simon Reindl's hall for the comradeship meeting.

On Sunday, July 21st, is the actual festival day with the traditional process: firecracker wake-up call, reception of the sponsoring association and the patron, reception of the clubs.

Festive service – outdoors if the weather permits – and a large parade.

After all, around 40 clubs are expected at the event.

After the move and the presentation of the souvenir gifts, a cozy get-together is planned.
