The police headquarters' accident record shows that crashes are happening more and more often in the district.

Drivers with high blood alcohol levels are increasingly causing accidents - and drivers are increasingly committing hit-and-runs.

District - The Upper Bavaria North Police Headquarters has published the traffic balance for 2023.

Compared to the previous year, more accidents occurred in the Ebersberg district - especially under the influence of alcohol.

More and more drivers simply ran away after an accident.

The number of accidents is increasing rapidly and is reaching its highest level in the Ebersberg district

Just a few weeks ago, emergency services saw a horrific scene near Zorneding: a 55-year-old man had driven his car off the road and crashed into a tree.

The force of the collision pushed the engine block of the vehicle into the interior and trapped the man.

The fire department was only able to free the driver from his car when he was dead.

Fortunately, such serious accidents resulting in death are isolated cases in the Ebersberg district.

This is shown by the accident statistics that have now been published by the police headquarters in Upper Bavaria North.

But still: There are more and more crashes in the district.

The number of accidents is increasing rapidly and will reach its highest level in ten years in 2023.

While the number of traffic accidents during the Corona period in 2020 was 2,875, there were 3,829 crashes in Ebersberger Land in 2023.

Compared to the previous year, this is an increase of around 14 percent (2022: 3,370).

The number of accidents with injuries fell by 3.5 percent to 573 - but remains at a high level.

Two people died in a traffic accident in the Ebersberg district in 2023

Two people died in a traffic accident in the district last year (previous year: 5).

In April 2023, a Munich woman (48) died in a head-on crash with a truck on the B 304 near Zorneding.

At the end of October, the alerted emergency services saw almost the same picture just a few kilometers further, just before Baldham.

Here, too, an 80-year-old man from Munich crossed into oncoming traffic on the B 304 and collided with a truck - he also died at the scene of the accident (we reported).

There were crashes 452 times due to excessive speed - especially on the county's country roads.

Increasing number of accidents under the influence of alcohol - more drivers are flying from the scene of an accident

The number of accidents on the way to school has fallen noticeably.

Ten years ago, the Upper Bavaria North police headquarters reported 13 accidents, in 2023 there were two.

Two people were also on drugs last year when they caused an accident.

However, traffic accidents under the influence of alcohol have increased significantly.

Drivers with high blood alcohol levels were responsible for fender damage 61 times in 2023.

An increase of over 17 percent (2022: 52).

What is also striking is the number of drivers who simply run away after a collision.

The local police stations had to search for witnesses more and more often.

With a total of 817 hit-and-run accidents, this is no wonder.

In 2022 the number was 668 – an increase of 22.3 percent.

But there are also accidents involving wildlife in the rural district.

However, the number remains at a constant level at 650 accidents per year.
