Nikki Haley breaks the abortion taboo.
The Trump opponent speaks out in favor of the controversial Alabama ruling.
The end of artificial insemination?
Montgomery – Republican Trump challenger Nikki Haley spoke out in favor of a controversial ruling by the Alabama Supreme Court.
In it, embryos conceived in a test tube and frozen are categorized as babies.
“To me, embryos are babies,” Haley said in an
NBC News
interview on Wednesday.
“When you talk about an embryo, to me that’s life.”
So far, Republicans have kept the issue of abortion out of the election campaign.
Haley now broke the taboo and used her own experience with artificial insemination as background; Republican opponent Donald Trump has not yet commented on the verdict.
The US state of Alabama has one of the strictest abortion laws in the US.
Haley Backtracks on Abortion Statements: Wants to Do What “Parents Want with Their Embryo”
The latest ruling caused uncertainty among people who have already started using so-called “in vitro fertilization”.
As a rule, several fertilized egg cells are used to then select the suitable samples.
The incompetent samples, categorized as life, would likely not be able to be disposed of normally.
The Alabama ruling follows the overturn of the landmark Roe v.
Wade (1973) in 2022, which enshrined women's right to abortion.
As a Republican, Haley is “pro-life.”
Abortion is also a culturally contested issue in the USA, where liberal and conservative opinions clash.

According to the
Reuters
news agency, after the Alabama Supreme Court's ruling , Alabama University in Birmingham stopped in-vitro fertilization for fear of consequences.
“This decision is outrageous – and it takes away women’s freedom to choose when and how to start a family,” Vice President Kamala Harris said on X.
The Republican candidate Haley also backtracked during the day: “I didn’t say that I agreed with the Alabama ruling,” said the Trump opponent in a
CNN
interview.
“Our goal is to always do what the parents want with their embryo.
It’s theirs,” Haley later explained, according to
Reuters
.
Trump the worse evil: lobbying for the anti-abortion agenda
While Haley expressed support for consensus among Republicans, according to
Reuters
, Trump has indicated in the past that he would also support a national abortion ban bill.
“A vote for Donald Trump is a vote for a national abortion ban.
Pass it on,” wrote Democrat Hillary Clinton on X.

Politico
has already reported on a group of nearly a hundred conservative and anti-abortion groups working on a far-reaching agenda that could allow Trump to further restrict abortion rights from day one.
Trump has recently had changing opinions on the issue of abortion, so the group could have a significant influence on the Republican candidate.
