Treasure hunt in the middle of Munich: On a new Instagram account, a stranger shares daily videos in which he hides cash on the street.

This causes mistrust.

Munich - The money isn't on the street - or maybe it is?

For a few weeks now, unknown people have been publishing videos on the Instagram account “cash.catch.munich” in which they are hiding banknotes worth 5 to 50 euros – sometimes even 100 euros – in Munich.

The motto: Whoever gets there first gets to keep the money - and if possible, share their luck with the other followers.

Unknown people are hiding cash in the middle of Munich – users are skeptical

“You are a winner!

Congratulations” is stuck as a sticker on each of the hidden banknotes.

(German: “You are a winner! Congratulations.”) Below, the creator behind “cash.catch.munich” asks the winner to share their find using the hashtag #cashcatchmunich and link their account to it.

The Instagram account “cash.catch.munich” supposedly hides a bank note in Munich every day.

Users warn of fraud.

Using this principle, he (or she) generated more than 20,000 followers within four weeks - the oldest accessible video was from January 24th.

Users therefore suspect a scam behind the account: The unknown video creator would delete all comments “from people who say that they were there after just a few minutes and the money wasn’t there.

“Someone is probably afraid that it will be noticed that he is fooling people here,” writes a user under one of the videos.

Another user adds: “I also suspect that the account is just building up reach in order to then be sold or converted into something else.”

“Treasure Hunt” or “Cash Catch” has spread in many major German cities

In any case, the account is not alone with the principle of searching for hidden cash: “Cash Catch” or “Treasure Hunt” has already made a name for itself in other major German cities such as Cologne and Berlin.

Even in Munich there are other similar Instagram accounts with almost identical names.

It always remains questionable where the supposedly hidden money comes from.

And why the unknown account creators voluntarily give away so many banknotes to strangers.

At “cash.catch.munich”, posts that involve 50 or even 100 euro banknotes in particular raise doubts.

Among videos in which only 10 euros were hidden, at least a few users claim that they have actually discovered the money.

There is no proof of this.

One user therefore demands: “Everyone should report this account so that it is blocked because it is only fake.”
