For increasingly less polluting transport, Barilla has started experimenting with HVO biodiesel, i.e. renewable diesel produced from waste raw materials and plant residues, or oils generated from crops that are not used for fuel, which can also be used by Euro6 diesel vehicles.
On this, the Parma-based group has in fact started a 'sustainable' partnership with Autamarocchi, a company specializing in container and FTL transport.
"In 2024 we aim to develop widespread adoption of biofuels through our carriers with whom we have consolidated partnership relationships. We are happy - explained Gianluigi Mason, Barilla's Italian logistics director - to start immediately with this pilot project together with Autamarocchi, to better understand the HVO solution and think about next steps."
In the first phase, the agreement will concern daily journeys between Parma and the Muggia plant, in the province of Trieste, which will be made with dedicated vehicles and customized semi-trailers, for a total of approximately 600 journeys per year.
The use of these low-impact vehicles will then increase and be used in other areas.
In the "path towards 'CarbonNeutrality 2050', biofuels - the managing director of Autamarocchi Roberto Vidoni is convinced - are the best opportunity to make a concrete and immediate contribution to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, awaiting the progress of other technologies, such as electric and hydrogen, and the development of the related infrastructures that will allow its widespread use in heavy transport".
