Six defendants are said to have stolen silver and gold worth a total of eleven million euros.
Now the defense is hoping for a verdict with suspended sentences on Friday.
Hamburg - The defense has asked the district court for a suspended sentence for three of the six defendants in the case of extensive raw silver thefts from the Hamburg copper manufacturer Aurubis.
A spokesman for the Hanseatic Higher Regional Court announced on Thursday that a prison sentence of between three years and five and a half years on probation was required for the remaining three men.
The public prosecutor's office, however, demanded prison sentences for the defendants for theft and receiving stolen property in up to twelve cases, as well as for a man for violating the weapons law.
The defendant, who is only accused of aiding and abetting, should be sentenced to a suspended sentence of one year and ten months.
According to the legal profession, the remaining five men face prison sentences of between five and seven years and nine months.
The six defendants are said to have transported intermediate and by-products from the Aurubis company premises in the Veddel district between February 2020 and January 2021.
According to the prosecution, the stolen material contained around 5,000 kilos of silver and gold worth a total of eleven million euros.
They are said to have sold the loot to previously unknown buyers.
A large part of the stolen goods was sent to metal processing companies in the Turkish metropolis of Istanbul for analysis and further use, it was said.
Some of the defendants are said to have worked for Aurubis or external companies that worked on the factory premises.
Four of the six defendants had already made confessions in the regional court in mid-January.
The verdict is due to come on Friday.
