An elite unit helped other Ukrainian troops escape Avdiivka.
Videos provide insight into the fierce final fighting in the city.
Avdiivka - Ukrainian forces fought for a long time in the Ukrainian War to hold the city of Avdiivka in eastern Ukraine - in the end unsuccessfully.
In order to save the soldiers already surrounded by Russia, Ukraine's new military chief Oleksandr Syrsky called on his troops to leave the city.
But it wasn't that easy: videos show fights by a Ukrainian elite unit.
“Threatening and unstable”: Elite unit had to help stranded troops
As the situation in the eastern Ukrainian city deteriorated, an elite unit was hastily relocated there.
They were supposed to support the stuck troops.
The 3rd Assault Brigade, one of the most important Ukrainian combat units, described the situation in the “Avdiivka Hell” as “threatening and unstable.” They announced this on the short message service Telegram.
A short time later they were completely surrounded - but they managed to free themselves completely, with deputy commander Maksym Zhorin on the platform.
“Not a single soldier of ours” stayed there.
He is responding to Russia's claim that Ukrainian soldiers are hiding in a chemical factory, according to

Shown are footage of combat operations during the attack by the brigade's 1st mechanized battalion, which was the first to reach Avdiivka.
The soldiers faced constant Russian artillery fire, airstrikes and FPV drone strikes.
They themselves used, among other things, grenade launchers against enemy targets.
The video also shows how the Ukrainian Armed Forces used FPV drones for reconnaissance and attacks and provided first aid to wounded comrades.
