By autumn at the latest, it could be that only one employee is available at the Weilheim indoor swimming pool.

The district committee has now warned against restricting the offer.

District

- "We spent 7,000 euros on job advertisements in the district messenger and tenders - the result was zero." Georg Leis, manager of the Weilheim-Schongau district office, left no doubt in the district committee that hardly anything was left unturned to find personnel for the Find the Weilheim indoor swimming pool.

The positions have been advertised since April 2023 – “with zero results”.

The situation of the swimming pool in Weilheim has “dramatically worsened”

In the meantime, the personnel situation in the indoor swimming pool has “worsened dramatically,” added district treasurer Norbert Merk.

The deputy pool manager has resigned, another colleague is retiring soon, and one has requested an interim certificate in order to apply elsewhere.

The consequence: “As of July, we only have one employee at the indoor swimming pool in Weilheim.”

District Administrator Andrea Jochner-Weiß identified the uncertainty about the future of the pool as the main culprit.

“There is always speculation as to how long the indoor swimming pool will remain open.

No wonder employees are looking for something new.”

The indoor swimming pool in Weilheim is very popular, but it always causes headaches for the city and district.

Debate about the future of the pool in Weilheim is toxic for employee recruitment

Especially when there are numerous modern indoor swimming pools in the area that are also desperately looking for staff.

“As long as we can't offer any prospects for the indoor swimming pool, it will be very difficult.

Even the Penzbergers with their brand new and future-proof indoor swimming pool had problems finding enough employees,” says Georg Leis.

Penzberg's mayor Stefan Korpan confirmed this representation.

(By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Weilheim-Penzberg newsletter.)

He even looked to see if there were headhunters for swimming pool employees, Leis continued.

These are specialized companies that place employees – in return for generous commissions.

But even they couldn't convey what isn't there.

There are “thousands of vacancies in this area” across Germany.
