No “Tatort” or “Bergdoktor” – and yet ARD secured the best ratings at the most important broadcast time of the day on Tuesday evening.

Mannheim - On Tuesday evening (February 20, 2024) at 8:15 p.m., things looked bad for the private television landscape: ARD once again won the best primetime ratings.

Although RTL revived “Deadly Service Day” in January, the station was unable to impress with its primetime crime drama.

ARD in high ratings: No chance against new series

The private broadcasters regularly have a difficult time in the ratings battle against the public TV giant.

“Tatort” regularly gives ARD the best ratings and leaves its competition far behind.

On days when ARD shows one of its long-standing, established cult series, the other television stations have a particularly difficult time.

It is all the more surprising that the second episode of the new six-part series “The Notary Doctor” went through the roof: The total audience tuned in was 4.19 million people, meaning that ARD

was able to capture 16.6 percent of the market share, according to

dwdl.de.

The runner-up on the primetime podium is the RTL crime film “Die Neue und der Bulle – Ein Duisburg-Krimi” but with more than 1.5 million fewer viewers.

2.52 million people tuned in, which corresponds to 10.5 percent of the market share - even the public evening programs ("In aller Friendship", ARD and "Die Rosenheim-Cops", ZDF) performed better than primetime - Crime from RTL.

“Deadly Day of Service” on RTL

Since January 23, 2024, the Cologne private broadcaster has been showing exciting crime stories every Tuesday from 8:15 p.m.

For example, RTL is showing new episodes of the successful North Sea crime thriller “Dünentod” with actor Hendrik Duryn (56).

Also part of the “Deadly Service Day” are “The New One and the Bull – A Duisburg Crime Story” and new cases about “Miss Merkel”.

“The Not Doctor” from ARD emerges as the primetime winner

The ARD series was also the most popular among the target group (14 to 49 year olds).

0.55 million people tuned in to “The Emergency Doctor” (market share 10.8 percent).

Surprisingly, RTL Crime is in fourth place in the category (0.27 million viewers and market share of 5.7 percent).

Here RTL was supported by VOX (“Hot or Schrott – Die Allestester” with 0.44 million viewers and 9.3 percent market share) and by private competitor ProSieben (“The world is amazed by that!” with 0.34 million viewers and 7. 5 percent market share).

In addition to “Tatort”, “Der Bergdoktor” is also a real ratings guarantee for ARD.

Loyal fans of the Alpine series, which has been running for over 15 years, tune in regularly and reward the station with excellent market shares.
