Google presents Gemma, a family of Artificial Intelligence models open to other developers, in direct contrast with Meta's Llama.
Both tech giants are moving towards the 'open' world in a way that undermines ChatGpt's parent company OpenAI and its closed model.
The two open models are called Gemma 2B and Gemma 7B and are available for free.
“Made with the same technical, infrastructure and research components used to create Google's Gemini models, Gemma offers best-in-class performance compared to similarly sized open models,” the company notes.
The launch follows last week's announcement that Gemini 1.5 Pro will be available to enterprises via the Vertex AI platform, bringing the total number of first- and third-party models available in the Vertex AI Model Garden to more than 130, "one of the largest in the sector".
