Google temporarily suspends Gemini, the artificial intelligence system that creates images.
The decision, communicated by the company itself, was taken after an increase in reports from users who noticed how the chatbot often makes mistakes when asked to generate photos that refer to historical facts.
The stop comes two days after the publication on X (formerly Twitter) by a user who showed the results of Gemini when asked to "generate an image of a German soldier from 1943".
The AI had generated four images of soldiers: one was white, one was black and two were Asian women.
So totally wrong.
We're already working to address recent issues with Gemini's image generation feature.
While we do this, we're going to pause the image generation of people and will re-release an improved version soon.

"We are aware that Gemini offers inaccuracies in some historical representations of image generation - Google said in a note published on X - We are working to resolve the problem."
Following the disclosure, Big G has decided to "pause people image generation" on Gemini while awaiting a new, improved version.
“Historical contexts are more nuanced, and we will further adapt to comply,” said Jack Krawczyk, Senior Director of Product at Gemini.
Google had started offering image generation across its various Gemini AI models earlier this month.
