With Ash Wednesday comes the next phase of the year: Lent has begun and with it the strong beer season with the tappings, where the Derblelecken is a must.

In Miesbach, the water spirit is in the Bräuwirt for the second time - this time with more time for the essentials.

Miesbach – The water spirit relies on honesty.

“I’m a little close this year,” says Nikolaus Ruml.

Accordingly, he now has his hands full getting everything in shape so that his program for the strong beer tapping in the Miesbacher Bräuwirt is ready.

This will take place on Friday and Saturday, 15/16.

March, instead.

Especially since a very dynamic chapter was added with the farmers' protests and tractor blockades, especially in the hot phase of writing the Lenten sermon.

But that's no reason for the water spirit to complain.

On the contrary: “There are enough topics to talk about.”

Traveling with a notepad

When Ruml is out and about in Miesbach, his notebook is a must.

There are always ideas and information that need to be recorded immediately.

A lot of material came together in this way.

The trick now is to put everything in a convenient order.

This fine structure – the common thread, so to speak – is now being refined.

The water spirit does not ponder in the cool or warm water, as would be expected, but on the balcony.

“I can really let my thoughts fly,” reveals the 38-year-old.

Since January, the Lenten sermon 2024 has been taking more and more shape, “and there is more and more grist for my mill”.

Long waiting time

This year's performance is definitely a little easier than last year's debut.

After Wolfgang Ober, alias Brother Oberitas, withdrew, Nikolaus Ruml was found relatively quickly as his successor for the tapping in 2020.

But the first appearance was delayed until 2023 due to the corona pandemic.

The premiere was successful, “but I first had to introduce and introduce the new character of the water spirit to the audience,” says Ruml.

The situation is different now.

“People know me now.

Now you can build the character of the character.”

Ruml doesn't want to make any changes or small corrections based on the experience of the debut: “I'll keep everything as it is, establish it and perfect it.

The character worked and I also felt comfortable with her.”

There are still tickets

Tickets for the Miesbacher Musikverein's strong beer tapping are now available for twelve euros at the Bräuwirt on the market square.

While there are only a few tickets left for Friday, Saturday is still readily available.

As always, the Lenten sermon with the water spirit is followed by a one-act play that the traditional costume club's theater group brings to the stage.
