There is still space next to the post office in Icking: what will happen to the area is still completely unclear.

The Federal Nature Conservation local group already has a plan.

You have a “community room” in mind.

Icking – The post office will open next to the town hall in Icking.

As reported, this is now certain.

This was confirmed by Mayor Verena Reithmann (UBI) at the first municipal council meeting of the year.

However, what will happen to the remaining space in the community-owned property is still completely open.

Icking: Proposal from the Federal Nature Conservation Association for an empty shop

While the administration initially wants to recruit potential tenants through an advertisement, the Federal Nature Conservation Association has designed an alternative concept for using the premises of the former fruit and vegetable shop “Früchtchen”.

This was not discussed further at the most recent meeting of the local council; town hall boss Reithmann simply mentioned that such a concept exists.

According to Reitmann, we first want to wait and see what feedback there is on the advertisements.

It is a shop with access to toilets that are shared with postal employees.

The suggestion for use comes from the chairmen of the Federal Nature Conservation local group, Antonia Gerber and Beatrice Wagner.

The latter has recently been sitting on the local council for the SPD.

The two sharpened their suggestions again and sent them to the other factions in the committee.

The initiators' idea: The areas should be made available to the general public, following the example of the Baierbrunn association "Mittendrin", which brought new life to a place in the community north of Icking.

“Mittendrin” uses the former savings bank and regularly organizes pub evenings, coffee afternoons and game meetings there.

Knitting groups come together in the locality, singing together is offered - everything by citizens for citizens.

“Community room” in the former “Früchtchen” fruit and vegetable shop?

The premises include a kitchen, which those involved built themselves.

The rooms can be rented for private events.

The aim of the association is to soon be able to pay the rent, which is currently borne by the community.

The owner of the property is the local publisher Wort & Bild, which has always generously supported Mittendrin.

Antonia Gerber and Beatrice Wagner could imagine its use being very similar.

They imagine what they call the “community space” as a “central location for various social, cultural and ecological events”.

According to the idea creators, projects in the area of sustainability in particular require “a low-threshold and cost-effective location”.

The 95 square meters could also be used as a “platform for local initiatives”.

“All of this promotes activities in the pre-political space, from which community life also benefits.” The Federation Nature Conservation Chairmen have already developed a number of program suggestions; sewing meetings are conceivable, clothing swap parties could take place in the property, coffee and game afternoons, small concerts, tutoring. Lessons, discussion groups.

Some committed people have already agreed to take on responsibility.

Payment models for renting rooms have also already been considered.

Mayor Reithmann did not go into the idea in more detail - at the committee meeting she mainly expressed her joy that “the post office will soon be starting up again”.

According to the town hall boss, employees are still being sought and facility planning is underway.

The post office will ultimately have two-thirds of the former shop space that faces the street.
