Munich – The strike year 2024 is entering the next round.

After local public transport was on strike at the beginning of February, it is now being hit again.

Because, as Verdi put it in a press release sent out on Thursday afternoon, February 22nd, the signal probably wasn't strong enough.

Strike in public transport – what applies to Bavaria

“The signal that the employees sent with their strike on February 2nd was apparently not sufficiently understood, because collective bargaining in the individual federal states still remained without results,” explained ver.di deputy chairwoman Christine Behle in the press release.

This means: “Employees in local public transport are called on a wave strike between Monday, February 26th, 2024 and Saturday, March 2nd, 2024”.

According to Verdi, strikes take place on different days during the period mentioned - “mainly all day and predominantly over several days”.

The main strike day is March 1st, which is also the day of the climate strike.

But there is one exception to the strike: Bavaria.

As it says in large red letters above the press release, the Free State is not affected by the strike.

The running text states: “The collective bargaining takes place in all federal states, but the collective agreement has not been terminated in Bavaria.”

Mega strike in Germany: Verdi paralyzes local transport - the background

The reason for the new strike is the stalled collective bargaining between the United Services Union (ver.di) and the employers.

“In order to finally bring movement into the negotiations, pressure must now be put on employers again.

That’s why we’re calling on employees to take concerted strikes,” said Behle.

The deputy chairwoman vehemently emphasizes the precarious situation in public transport.

There is a dramatic labor shortage, which puts great pressure on employees.

Means of transport are constantly being canceled because there is a lack of staff - it is urgently time for employers to accommodate employees, according to the press release.

With a view to the inconvenience that would be caused to travelers, Behle expressed regret: “However, the strike will be announced early so that passengers can prepare for it,” he concluded.
