At the beginning of the month, an announcement was made about the seizure of thousands of vials of a substance suspected to be a pain reliever of the "Percocet" type, which contained over 100,000 pills. The Ministry of Health announces today (Thursday) that an inspection conducted by the Department of Enforcement and Supervision in the Ministry against the manufacturer of the medicine that appears on the packaging (Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals) revealed to the office by the manufacturer that these are fake pills.
In addition, the manufacturer stated that the packaging was not manufactured by the company and was not intended for sale in Israel.
Laboratory tests carried out by the office for examining the pills revealed that they contain the active substance N-Desethyl-Etonitazene (NDE), a synthetic opioid belonging to the benzimidazole family (2-benzylbenzimidazole), which has been linked to deaths worldwide.
In addition, this substance has no known and accepted medical use, and its effect is up to 20 times stronger than the effect of fentanyl.
Therefore, the Ministry of Health warns the public that using this substance poses an immediate danger to public health.
