A man who pretended to be a public prosecutor over the phone defrauded a 90-year-old Zornedinger of several thousand euros.

The Erding police are investigating.

Zorneding

– A pensioner (90) from Zorneding fell for a nasty scam on Wednesday, February 21st.

As the police reported on Thursday, February 22nd, the woman received a call from an alleged prosecutor in the afternoon.

The fraudsters behind the call persuaded the pensioner to hand over valuables worth several thousand euros to a stranger.

The police are investigating.

The stories told in this scam are similar: alleged officials (police officers, prosecutors, judges, etc.) call their victims by phone and claim that a close relative caused a serious traffic accident.

Only by paying a large amount of cash can a prison sentence be avoided.

The phone call with the “prosecutor” lasts several hours

“Unfortunately, the pensioner from Zorneding fell for the call from the wrong public prosecutor,” regrets a spokesman for the Upper Bavaria North Police Headquarters.

The phone call with the fake public prosecutor lasted several hours.

The valuables were handed over at around 5 p.m. at Herzogplatz.

The person who picked me up was around 20 years old, 1.65 to 1.75 tall and was wearing a hat and coat.

A white bag without a handle was handed over.

Witnesses should call (0 81 22) 96 80.

The criminal police give tips on how to behave

- It is best to hang up if you are not sure who is calling and you feel pressured.

- The police will never call you on the police emergency number 110!

Only scammers do that.

If you are unsure, dial 110. But do not use the callback button!

- Call the supposedly affected relative on the number you know!

- Never talk about your personal and financial circumstances on the phone.

- Never hand over money to unknown people!

- Call in someone you trust or call the police on the emergency number 110!

- The real police never ask for cash, transfers or valuables from you to conduct investigations!

Speak to your relatives about the phenomenon and warn them about the actions of the perpetrators!
