The village of camellias returns to bloom.
In the two villages of Pieve and Sant'Andrea di Compito, hamlets of the municipality of Capannori (Lucca) rich in this plant with beautiful flowers and from which tea is obtained, everything is ready for the 35th edition of the Ancient Camellia Exhibition of Lucca: it will take place in the first four weekends of March (on days 2-3, 9-10, 16-17 and 23-24), hosting more than 150 events.
The program includes visits to the camellia grove, the largest in Europe with 1,500 plants on 4 hectares and more than a thousand different cultivars, cultural events, shows, concerts, historical re-enactments and entertainment for children, traditional food.
Among the new features, in addition to an extra weekend of visits, an expansion of the shuttles to reach the village, which will be closed to traffic, and a greater food and wine offer.
The exhibition is organized by the Compitese cultural center in collaboration with the Municipality of Capannori.
The event, it was explained on the occasion of its presentation, "attracts more and more visitors from Italy and abroad, and, to open up more and more to families, increases the cultural, entertainment and hospitality offers aimed at all ages": "If the Borgo delle Camellia opens up to the world both for the beauty of its historical and natural treasures, obviously, but also for the skills and strength of the community, capable of welcoming visitors and building a solid network of collaborations".
Among the experiential itineraries are the Japanese tea ceremony and guided visits to the Camelieto, the Anticachiusa Borrini and the Camellia Village.
The collaboration with the Villa Reale di Marlia, the country residence of Elisa Bonaparte Baciocchi, Napoleon's sister, is also renewed: in March reduced ticket for those who show up on weekdays with the Mostra delle Antichecamelie coupon to visit its Empire-style rooms and the monumental park .
