When the neighbors burn, Wolfgang Sanktjohanser (26) acts without hesitation.
The fire department assumes that he may have prevented a major fire in Grafing.
Grafing/Kirchseeon
– Wolfgang Sanktjohanser crouches down between the blue lights, fire hoses and uniforms and takes a breath.
“A little dizzy,” is his self-assessment.
No wonder, he probably just prevented a major fire in Grafing.
Fire: The neighbors are in a panic, the 26-year-old reacts immediately and in the right way
On Thursday afternoon he was standing in his kitchen in a terraced house on Sudetenstrasse when the doorbell rang in panic.
It's the family next door.
The people hardly speak any German, but one thing is clear: there is a fire.
The 26-year-old runs next door in a T-shirt and smoke hits him.
“Everything upstairs was black,” he reports.
Apparently an electrical appliance is on fire in the bathroom, and Sanktjohanser can no longer recognize what it is.
He does not care.
With a bucket and a few bottles he gets enough water to put out the fire.
“I’m glad the roof didn’t catch fire,” he said.
The fire is out, but when the soot runs out of his nose while showering, Wolfgang Sanktjohanser calls the emergency number.
Especially worried about the affected family, who probably also got smoke.
“The fire is out,” he also says on the phone.
But the rescue control center, which has to expect the worst, such as an invisible smoldering fire and smoke gas injuries, alerts the fire brigade, police and emergency services.
You definitely prevented something worse from happening.
Grafing's 2nd fire brigade commander Mathias Czehowsky
When the first aider sees the line-up, he feels guilty.
“So many people because of me!” he says.
Grafing's second fire brigade commander, Mathias Czehowsky, finds the right words for Grafinger, who didn't hesitate for a second to help, but now doubts himself: “Everything was done right, big praise.
You definitely prevented something worse from happening.
Thank you for your help!” The humble hero from Sudetenstrasse doesn’t seem to be completely convinced yet;
the experience has to sink in first.
(By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Ebersberg newsletter.)
Perhaps in the coming days he will realize that others have already received a medal for less.
Because if the flames had spread and spread to the roof structure, who knows what could have happened in the densely built-up terraced housing estate, fire department commander Czehowsky emphasized to the EZ and said: “It's better to call the fire department once too often than once too little!” A neighbor In any case, says: “We are proud of him!”

The firefighters prefer it that way before something worse happens.
