If politics is a matter of symbolism, taxation is much less so.
Last spring, the President of the Republic announced a tax cut of 2 billion for the middle classes, at the end of the retirement sequence.
It is said that he had the idea suggested to him by the young Minister of Public Accounts at the time, Gabriel Attal.
In his general policy speech, the Prime Minister also dedicated a vibrant tribute to his flagship subject, the middle classes, and reaffirmed the imminence of the implementation of this emblematic measure.
Which should appear
“if possible”
– that is to say
“if France can afford it economically speaking”
– in the 2025 budget, according to the formula of the Minister of Finance, Bruno Le Maire.
One solution, however, would make it possible to keep the presidential promise without damage to state coffers: finance the measure.
