The ultra-conservative Ron DeSantis is seen among Republicans as Donald Trump's running mate if he becomes president again.
But he refuses.
Washington - The duel of the year is probably Joe Biden versus Donald Trump.
Although neither of them has yet been officially nominated by their party, a repeat of the 2020 constellation seems almost certain in the 2024 US election.
However, the following question remains unanswered: Who will Trump nominate as his vice president for the election in November?
Donald Trump has not announced anything yet.
According to politics professor Hans Noel from Georgetown University, the situation is made more difficult by the fact that Trump fought and scared away all other possible Republican top candidates in the primary campaign.
This is especially true for Ron DeSantis.
Florida's governor was long considered Trump's strongest rival within the party, but has already withdrawn his candidacy, Noel said in an interview with

Now DeSantis has also commented on the speculation about the position as a possible Vice President of the USA.
“People have mentioned me (as a possible vice president).
I’m not doing that,” DeSantis was quoted as saying by the
New York Post,
citing an acceptance speech.
“I think my criteria [for running for office] are different than what Donald Trump probably has,” the governor added.
Trump said Tuesday that in addition to DeSantis, he also has former Democratic Rep. Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii and Sen. Tim Scott on his "short list" for vice president if he wins the election.
Representative Byron Donalds, biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy and Governor Kristi Noem are also on this list.

Kristi Noem, Governor of the US state of South Dakota
Tim Scott, Senator from South Carolina
Donald Trump shows himself to be a “proud Christian”
Meanwhile, Donald Trump presents himself as a “proud Christian” and uses passionate words to enlist the support of the religious right.
“I come before you as a friend, an ally and a brother in faith to ask for your help, your support and your prayers for this country,” the former US president said on Thursday (local time).

Trump also emphasized at the meeting of the Association of National Evangelical Media Professionals in the US state of Tennessee that he had fought harder for Christians during his time in office than ever before.
“When I return to the White House, I will once again aggressively defend religious freedom,” Trump promised.
In his speech, he described incumbent Biden as an “incompetent president” who would not lead the people “to the promised land”.
Trump stops verbal attacks against DeSantis
After Ron DeSantis dropped out of the race, Trump scaled back his verbal attacks against his former rival.
Trump said on January 21 during a campaign appearance in the state of New Hampshire that he would no longer use the derogatory nickname “Ron DeSanctimonious” in the future.
“Sanctimonious” means hypocritical in German.
“This name is now officially obsolete,” Trump was quoted as saying at the time.
Trump is known for coming up with derogatory nicknames for political opponents, such as “Sleepy Joe” for US President Joe Biden or “Crooked Hillary” for his 2016 Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton.
He called Nikki Haley, Trump's only remaining competitor in the fight for the Republican nomination, "birdbrain," among other things.
Both will compete against each other in the US primaries on Saturday in South Carolina.
Although Haley should have a home advantage in the US state that she once ruled as governor, Trump is also leading the polls for the US primaries there by a large margin.
