Prime Minister Rhein and his deputy Mansoori explain the entry into key projects of the new state government.

It's about the fight against crime, hunting wolves and fast internet.

Wiesbaden - Intensified fight against pedophiles, additional German lessons in primary schools, hunting of problem wolves: five weeks after its launch, Hesse's black-red government presented an immediate program.

According to Prime Minister Boris Rhein (CDU) on Friday, it “stands for departure and a new realpolitik”.

It's about more security, a focus on families and impulses for the middle of society.

Deputy Prime Minister Kaweh Mansoori (SPD) emphasized in Wiesbaden that Hesse should continue to be a strong economic location and a social, safe and livable home for all citizens.

“We want to set the first important course for this with the rapid implementation of the immediate program,” added the Economics Minister.

Regarding financing, Prime Minister Rhein referred to Hesse's current budget, but also spoke of 25 million euros in the planned supplementary budget for 2024, which aims for the final third reading in the state parliament by the summer break.

On Friday, under the title “11+1 for Hesse”, Rhein presented a top project for each CDU-led ministry and one for the State Chancellery.

Similarly, Mansoori presented a top project from the SPD-led departments.

Schwarz-Rot says it wants to introduce a draft law to the Federal Council for the storage of IP address data for investigations, for example against suspected pedophiles and hate speakers.

Without this option, effective prosecution would be impossible.

Such rules are permissible under European and constitutional law.

More German, less English

Additional German lessons in the first and second grades are to start “now” at selected schools.

There is also a voluntary pilot project for primary schools with an additional German lesson in the third and fourth grades, for which one of the current two English lessons per week can be used.

When it comes to wolves, Black-Red is striving for the predators to be included in state hunting law with a view to livestock damage.

However, they are currently protected under EU law.

But the European Commission wants to relax these strict rules.

According to their own statements, Black and Red in Hesse would like to “create an active regulation of the wolf population and ensure social peace.

We want to chase the wolf now instead of regretting it later.”

Other points in the immediate program include an offensive against crime in inner cities with more controls and raids as well as a “Hessengeld” especially for young families to buy an apartment or a house in view of increased interest and construction costs.

Schwarz-Rot would like to counter extremism of all kinds with a “program for application-oriented democracy research”.

The aim of free master training is to achieve equivalence between academic and vocational training.

Internet at the speed of light

Furthermore, the new state government wants to address the shortage of skilled workers in daycare centers with more positions for “practice-integrated, paid training for the educator profession”.

It also promises to provide “light-speed internet throughout Hesse with fiber optic connections.”

“Around 60,000 additional connections have been or are currently being created.”

Finally, Black-Red also wants to strengthen the position of the anti-Semitism commissioner and set up an office for this.

Criticism came from the opposition.

The Greens complained: “The state government has been significantly bloated with two new ministries and four new state secretaries.” Most of the projects, however, are not new or noteworthy.

At the same time, there was a lack of initiatives in areas such as environmental and climate protection or the financing of universities.

The FDP spoke of “points from the election programs that were ironed out again”.

“11 + 1 for Hesse” does not go beyond vague announcements.

The AfD also saw above all declarations of intent: “Demands such as fiber optics for everyone, a free master and an additional German lesson in primary school are all well and good, but the new state government must be measured by what it actually implements.” dpa
