The Upper Bavaria South Police Headquarters has published the traffic accident balance for 2023.

The numbers rose in many areas, but officials also reported positive things.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen – No improvement in sight: Last year there were 2,710 accidents on the roads in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district.

That's a little more than in 2022 (2655).

This emerges from the traffic balance published by the Upper Bavaria South Police Headquarters.

In 2023, 561 people in the district were injured in accidents, six percent more than in 2022 (529 people).

Let us breathe a sigh of relief: fewer people died on the streets last year than in the previous twelve months.

Four people died in 2023 and seven in 2022.

It was only on Wednesday, the day the balance sheet was published, that there was a serious traffic accident between Murnau and Ohlstadt.

A four-car collision left one dead and seriously injured.

Traffic balance: The number of accidents in the district increased by six percent

“Excessive or inadequate speed plays a role, particularly in fatal accidents,” said the police headquarters.

The authority looked at the accident record for its entire area of ​​responsibility - this includes the districts of Miesbach, Altötting, Mühldorf, Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen and Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

The influence of alcohol and drugs are still often among the causes.

Across southern Upper Bavaria, 458 pedestrians, 4,140 senior citizens, 1,069 motorcyclists, 3,064 men and women between the ages of 18 and 24 and 77 students were involved in accidents.
