Shas chose to run in Ashdod: just before the end of one of the most tense election campaigns recorded in Ashdod, the Shas faction announced its support for the incumbent mayor.
A candidate for mayor, Avi Amsalem, who won 10 percent in the polls, withdrew his candidacy.
The essay brings the mayor of Ashdod closer to a fourth term, after a poll conducted in the city by Direct Falls gave him 44 percent already in the first round without the Shas
. The multitude of contenders for mayor led to tremendous tensions, tearing down and vandalizing of signs and mutual attacks between the candidates until for a moment it seemed that some of them had forgotten the war going on outside.

Lasry's political move leads him to another term
Last week, the race for the presidency began to become clearer with the retirement of Barak Seri, who was the closest person to Derai but did not receive his support.
After his retirement, Seri signed a support agreement with Shimon Katznelson, another candidate for mayor.
Now, Amsalam has also dropped his candidacy for mayor, leaving five in the race: incumbent mayor Dr. Yehiel Lesri, Helen Gelber, Shimon Katznelson, Eli Lachmani and Eli Nacht.
Those around Lesri say that the delicate political move was forged out of trust and mutual respect with Sh. S. and Chairman Deri, as was the case between the parties over the years "and it symbolizes the need for unity at this time, when the public in Ashdod needs a responsible and experienced leadership, one that puts all the residents at the center of action."
