The number of business creations rebounded by 2.7% in January in France, INSEE announced on Friday, after a drop of 1.5% in December, and reached

“an unprecedented level”

over a month since the start of the series in 2000. This monthly increase comes in particular from an increase in registrations of micro-entrepreneurs (also +2.7%, after stability in December) but also from a rebound in the creation of traditional businesses (+2 .8% after -4.0%).

These data are expressed adjusted for seasonal variations and the effects of working days.

Business creations are increasing in most sectors and

“reaching an unprecedented level in one month since the start of the series”

in 2000, underlines INSEE.

Thus, 94,066 businesses were created in January, including 34,360 traditional businesses and 59,707 micro-enterprises.

In raw data, the total number of businesses created over the last twelve months, that is to say from February 2023 to January 2024, increased by 1.1% compared to that of the same months a year earlier.

In December, for the whole of 2023, this number was down 1%.

In January, creations

“rebounded strongly”

in household services activities (+5.3% after -1.1%), in industry (+8.5% after -8.3%) and in accommodation and catering (+10.1% after -4.3%).

However, they fell in real estate activities (-4.2% after +0.2%).

Over three months (November 2023 to January 2024), the cumulative number of businesses created increases significantly compared to the same months a year previously (+6.0%).

This increase is notably driven by the sector which includes home delivery.

The 1.1% increase in the total number of businesses created over the last twelve months (from February 2023 to January 2024) is mainly due to micro-entrepreneurship.

Like every month since last year, INSEE warns after the implementation of the electronic window for business formalities.

“The developments in business creations in comparison with the year 2023 must be interpreted with great caution

,” specifies the National Institute of Statistics, adding that

“the significant change”

constituted by the implementation of this instrument
