Two alleged rapes at Regensburg main station caused a stir.

The first offense was invented, but now there are further doubts.

Regensburg - An alleged rape in broad daylight in a park near Regensburg main train station, six days later another sexual offense just a few hundred meters away - these reports caused a stir at the end of January and brought Regensburg into the national headlines.

Also because the station area is considered a crime hotspot.

Regensburg main station: One rape was made up, there are doubts about the second one

It has been clear for three weeks now: there was no rape in broad daylight.

The alleged victim is now being investigated for faking a crime.

Now there are also doubts that the second sexual offense, near the Roman Wall, not far from Ernst-Reuter-Platz, happened as initially assumed.

Two suspects who had been in custody since January 26th have now been released after an examination by the judge.

There is “currently no longer any strong suspicion” against the two Tunisians, 20 and 22 years old.

This was announced by the Upper Palatinate police headquarters.

“Consensual acts”: Suspects deny rape

The event took place on the evening of January 25th.

Two passers-by called the police shortly before eight o'clock because they had heard cries for help near the Roman wall.

The patrol that arrived immediately found a 29-year-old woman who said she had been raped and robbed by two men.

A short time later, the police arrested the two suspects.

According to a police report, when they were questioned, the two stated that “the actions had taken place in agreement with the 29-year-old.”

These statements “as well as the evaluation of the other evidence, especially the viewing of the video recordings at the train station” persuaded the responsible judge to release the men.

However, the investigation into the circumstances of the crime continues.

Suspected sexual offense at Regensburg main station: connection to drug trafficking?

There are many indications that the crime could be related to drugs and drug trafficking.

The woman told the police that she had asked the two men at the bus station “for change.

Then she followed them to the Roman wall, which was difficult to see, especially at night.

When the woman later filed a criminal complaint against the two men, she appeared to the officers to be “intoxicated,” i.e. under the influence of drugs, according to the police.

Debate about security at Regensburg Central Station: Political instrumentalization

The AfD submitted an emergency motion in the Bavarian state parliament full of obvious untruths, the Regensburg CSU member of the Bundestag Peter Aumer wrote a highly publicized incendiary letter to Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser and the Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann announced a visit to Regensburg.

A letter to parents from the nearby St. Mary's Schools, which is issued almost every year, was exploited by right-wing extremists.

Regensburg main station: crime will increase in 2023

It is true that crime in the Regensburg train station area has increased since mid-2023.

Since November, there has been a separate investigation group at the criminal police and a special unit at the public prosecutor's office - over 30 suspects are in custody.

Suspected intensive perpetrators, the vast majority of whom come from Tunisia - a total of around 300 people from Tunisia live in asylum accommodation in Regensburg.

The suspects are primarily accused of commercial theft and moderate bodily harm crimes, as the public prosecutor's office recently announced.

It is also undisputed that the number of sexual offenses in the station area increased in 2023, to around 15, according to information from our editorial team. What “quality” these offenses have is not yet known.

Kripo Regensburg: Stories about “a perpetrator sitting in the bushes and attacking women” are false

The police have been confirming the increase in crime in the station area, including sexual crimes, for months now, but if you want to find out more, they always refer to the official “announcement date” in March.

Daniel Dorner-Bornschlegel, head of crime prevention at the Upper Palatinate Police Headquarters, recently emphasized that the fear of “a perpetrator sitting in the bushes and attacking women” does not correspond to reality, despite all the existing problems at the train station.
