A lorry driver was apprehended by police on Friday morning after hitting and killing a 17-year-old student and badly injuring his 15-year-old sister in Bassano on the outskirts of Sanremo.
The man failed to stop after the accident, which occurred around 8 am local time as the two youngsters were coasting a wall on their way to school.
He was tracked down by police thanks to the description of thelorry provided by a witness as he had just finished deliveringgoods to a local company.
He told police that he had not been aware of anything.
The truck was impounded and the driver taken to hospital for routine medical examinations.
The girl is receiving hospital treatment in Pietra Ligure possibly serious multiple traumas.
