Strong warning from the US Food and Drug Administration against the use of any 'smartwatch or ring' that promises to measure blood sugar levels without the use of a needle to analyze at least a drop of blood.
These tools, sold mostly online, are becoming extremely popular in the United States.
Aimed at the American public and doctors, the American government agency notes that these devices are "multiple, sold under many brands, and produced by dozens of companies", referring to "any instrument that claims to be able to monitor glucose levels without pierce the skin".
The FDA does not name any brands, but Apple does not have any smartwatches with these characteristics on the market.
Although it has been rumored for some time that the company is working on it.
The FDA underlines that it "has never approved smartwatches with these performances or other instruments with non-invasive techniques" for measuring sugars and underlines that the use of these technologies "can lead to errors in diabetes control", to the incorrect use of insulin and the rapid lowering of sugar levels to levels that increase the risk of coma, confusion and even death "within hours of an incorrect blood sugar reading".
