The fire department's breathing apparatus put out a fire in an attic apartment in Weilheim on Friday.

It is still unclear why the fire broke out.

The police are investigating.

Weilheim

– A fire broke out in an attic apartment on Seitzstrasse in Weilheim on Friday afternoon.

It is now uninhabitable.

At 1:33 p.m. the emergency call was received that there was a fire in an apartment building.

Firefighters went into the building.

“A respiratory protection team extinguished the fire,” reports Stefan Herbst, commander of the Weilheim fire department.

36 of his people and another 20 emergency services from Deutenhausen and Unterhausen were on site, as well as emergency services and police.

“The apartment is a total loss, fortunately no one was injured,” reports Herbst.

Why the fire broke out was still unclear on Friday evening, Alexander Klimt from the operations center of the Upper Bavaria South Police Headquarters told the local newspaper when asked.

The Weilheim police have taken over the investigation.

The damage was estimated at more than 100,000 euros.

No break for the fire department

After the operation, there was no long break for the Weilheim fire department.

She rushed straight to the next mission.

Smoke was reported in the SOS Children's Village in Weilheim.

A young person was cooking when a major power outage paralyzed parts of the district town and Wielenbach.

Since the stove was off, the young man left the kitchen to report the problem.

But the power came back - and started a grease fire, which the teenager later noticed.

He put a lid on the pot - as he had learned in fire training - and thereby prevented a larger fire.

The Weilheim fire department ensured that the kitchen was smoke-free again.

The teenager remained uninjured.

“He reacted really well,” praised facility manager Melanie Bagola, who was also very grateful to the emergency services: “We really appreciate their efforts.”
