Reporters Without Borders, apparently, is concerned about press freedom in Europe.
Nothing in its practice really confirms this claim, as recent events demonstrate.
And yet, this cause deserves to be truly embraced.
Because press freedom is doing less well than people say in Western Europe – while some present it as the last bastion of liberal democracy in the face of the rise of authoritarian empires.
It is not certain that it deserves so much praise when everywhere the call to media order is imposed, in new forms, which range from societal repression to state repression, which in any case push to the development of self-censorship.
Censorship returns to the West.
