There was no sign of winter in Bavaria lately; instead it was mild with occasional rain.

But could it now become white again in Franconia?

Nuremberg - February has been quite mild so far.

On Wednesday, February 21st, the thermometer climbed again to a maximum of 10 degrees - in the depths of winter.

After all, the meteorological start of spring is only on March 20th.

But it doesn't seem to necessarily stay that way.

Do you have to prepare for the onset of winter again in Bavaria?

Hurricane deep moves from England to the North Sea - heavy rain in Franconia

“On Thursday a hurricane low will move with its core from England to the North Sea.

Here it is overcast with long-lasting and heavy rainfall,” reports weather expert Stefan Ochs (

wetterochs.de)

in his forecast for Franconia.

We're talking about 15 to 22 mm, in Hersbruck Switzerland even up to 35 mm.

The temperatures still reach 11 degrees.

The rainfall will subside quickly on Friday night.

Depending on the weather model, it is sometimes more, sometimes less cloudy, sometimes it can rain.

A maximum of 9 degrees is reached during the day.

Is Franconia threatened with another onset of winter?

“Heavy snowfall throughout Bavaria”: but weather models are still divided

“Our artificial Graphcast intelligence expects a low moving from Italy via Austria to the Czech Republic at the beginning of next week, which would bring heavy snowfall across Bavaria,” said the expert.

So an onset of winter in Franconia too?

According to Ochs, GFS has a similar development in the conventional models, but at a higher temperature level with rain at lower altitudes.

“In the other conventional weather models, this low does not exist at all.

But I don't know whether we can derive anything from this about the reliability of Graphcast.

Rather, after the hurricane low on Thursday, developments at the beginning of next week will probably still be beyond the reach of all models,” the weather expert concluded.

Whether there is a threat of winter or not will probably only be clear in the next few days.
