A Volkswagen classic could appear on the scene as an electric car in a few years: VW is apparently considering a new edition of the legendary Scirocco sports coupe.
Wolfsburg/Munich - Aside from the successful bestsellers VW Golf and Passat, there are other model series that enjoy cult status among fans of the brand: One of them is the VW Scirocco, which has been manufactured in a total of three series since the 1970s.
According to a British media report, there could soon be a new edition at Volkswagen: According to

, the Wolfsburg-based company is examining a comeback of the classic as an electric car, which could be launched in 2028.
Volkswagen is toying with the rebirth of the VW Scirocco as an electric car
The portal cites insider sources according to which the rebirth of the VW Scirocco could be realized together with three other company vehicles: In addition to a rebirth of the sports coupe, these include other models:
Porsche Cayman/Boxster
Audi TT
Cupra Dark Rebel
The four new products are to be built on a variant of the new PPE platform, which will be used for the first time in the Porsche Macan Elektro and the Audi counterpart Q6 e-tron in 2024.
However, development based on the SSP architecture would also be conceivable.
The magazine reports on plans that provide for a larger three-door car with all-wheel drive and a power range between 300 and 400 hp - including the R variant.

The Scirocco first came onto the market in 1974 as a spacious coupé version of the VW Golf.
Generation two followed in the early 1980s before production stopped for more than a decade.
In 2008, the model series was finally launched for a third time based on the Golf VI: In contrast to its predecessors, production no longer took place at Karmann in Osnabrück, but in Portugal until 2017.
VW Scirocco as an electric car?
Novelty could leave golf paths
If a new VW Scirocco were to be brought to life, the sports model would no longer be based on the compact class (Golf or VW ID.3): the new electric car should be positioned higher and therefore be more expensive.
