The metering light at Achensee recently caused traffic chaos.

The second phase starts exactly on the Bavarian Easter holidays.

Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen/Miesbach/Garmisch-Partenkirchen – traffic chaos is what we are used to in the districts south of Munich on busy weekends.

On the last two Saturdays it was even more extreme.

On the one hand, there was holiday traffic, and on the other hand, there was a trial metering ramp on Achenseestrasse.

“The metering light worked as intended”: Tyrol is sticking to its traffic concept

According to Schwaz district captain Michael Brandl, the first interim results of the traffic light show: It was an endurance test and there is potential for improvement.

These busy days were deliberately chosen.

“The fact that traffic jams would form was foreseeable, regardless of the pilot project.

However, after an initial look at the evaluated traffic data, it becomes clear that the metering traffic light worked as intended and regulated the traffic well over the majority of the two days,” Brandl is quoted as saying in a press release.

But now the adjustment screws still have to be turned to optimize the dosage.

The data would now have to be viewed together with the experts in order to make appropriate adjustments for the next two test days on March 23rd and 30th.

It is checked whether the traffic light should be moved to a different location and the duration of the red and green phases is adjusted.

The second phase starts during the Easter holidays

“However, a final conclusion can only be drawn after all four pilot days.

“We can then decide on the further course of action, such as long-term implementation,” Brandl is quoted as saying.

The project is being carried out in close coordination with the Bavarian neighbors in Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen and Miesbach.

There has been discussion about reducing alternative traffic for a long time - the traffic lights are a first step.

The second phase of the dosing ramp starts exactly during the Bavarian Easter holidays.

After traffic experts expect a similar traffic chaos, the Garmisch district administrator Anton Speer (Free Voters) now invited people to a crisis discussion in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district office on the initiative of Mittenwald's mayor Enrico Corongiu (SPD).

The affected communities should be helped

Also present were district administrator Josef Niedermaier (Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen), district captain Michael Kirchmair (Innsbruck-Land), Garmisch-Partenkirchen's mayor Elisabeth Koch (CSU) and other town hall bosses - also from the Seefeld plateau area - as well as representatives of the Garmisch police station , officers from Seefeld, the Tyrol State Police Department and representatives from the Weilheim State Building Authority.

At this appointment it quickly became clear how different German and Austrian jurisprudence is.

The Tyrolean neighbors are allowed to direct traffic preventively and even completely stop it in certain places.

An impossibility on the Bavarian side.

In order to help the affected communities and protect residents from the massive traffic avalanche, the government of Upper Bavaria and the federal government should now be brought on board.

According to reports, everyone involved agreed that only a supra-regional solution supported by all sides can solve this problem.
