Dozens of tractors blocking the main roads of France, slurry dumped in front of stores or prefectures, the head office of a large dairy company occupied for long hours... The peasant anger which has shaken France since mid-January has taken by surprise even the most keen observers of the agricultural world.
If local upheavals have punctuated the countryside several times in recent years, notably during the milk crisis in 2016, this is the first time since 1992 and the demonstrations against the reform of the common agricultural policy (CAP) that such protest by the peasants of France comes to light.
Both in this intensity and in this duration.
And, while an Agricultural Show opens this Saturday under high tension, the agricultural unions, from the FNSEA to the Rural Coordination, have also continued to maintain the pressure, with dotted actions throughout the week.
