Former President Donald Trump said this Friday that he “strongly supports access to in vitro
fertilization (
IVF)” and asked Alabama lawmakers to preserve it.
They are his first comments after the controversial ruling of the Alabama Supreme Court that led some clinics to suspend these treatments and sneaked in as an issue in the presidential campaign.
In a post on his Truth Social social network, Trump wrote: “Under my leadership, the Republican Party will always support the creation of strong, prosperous and healthy American families.
“We want to make it easier for moms and dads to have babies, not harder!”
His comments come after the all-Republican Alabama Supreme Court ruled that frozen embryos were “children” under state law.
Since then, several clinics in the state have announced a pause in IVF services.
As president, Trump nominated three of the U.S. Supreme Court justices who voted to overturn Roe v.
Wade, a landmark court decision that dismantled the federal right to abortion.
