Is it time for the return of the station wagon, lurking lately in the shadow of the SUV?
Some think so, for the benefit of efficiency.
With electric propulsion, manufacturers have not given up offering silhouettes derived from sedans.
After the MG5 Estate and the BMW 5 Series Touring, it is Volkswagen's turn to announce an electric estate.
In Wolfsburg, it was decided that the first vehicle of this type to use battery electric power would be derived from the famous ID.7, the brand's new flagship.
The arrival of this model did not prevent VW from renewing its Passat which will only be offered in the Station Wagon version.

Produced on the same line as the ID.7 in the Emden factory, Germany, the Tourer version logically takes on most of the technical characteristics of the sister.
As is often the case, the design of the station wagon will appear to some to be more successful than that of the sedan from which it derives.
Compared to the ID.7, the Tourer gains 40 mm to display a length of 4.96 m.
This is still 100 mm less than the latest BMW 5 Series Touring available in an electric variant.

VW has taken care of the functionality of its electric station wagon which announces a loading volume of 605 liters, with the rear seat backs in cargo position.
With the standard configuration, the difference is only 7 liters, to the advantage of the Tourer.
By folding the rear seats, we obtain a perfectly flat loading surface almost 2 meters long and offering up to 1,714 liters of cargo capacity.
Still based on the MEB platform, the ID.7 Tourer is powered by a 286 horsepower engine installed on the rear axle.
It is powered by a 77 kWh net (82 kWh gross) battery.
A second version equipped with a larger capacity battery (91 gross kWh) will also be included in the catalog to target a 685 km range.
In the best case scenario, the ID.7 Tourer will be able to recharge its batteries at a charging power of 200 kW.
On a fast terminal, going from 10 to 80% will take less than 30 minutes.
