Three young people aged 15, 16 and 17 attacked and injured two homeless people in Moers on the Lower Rhine.
A good week after the crime on February 8, one of the victims, a 58-year-old man, died in hospital, the police and public prosecutor's office said on Friday.
The police are investigating whether the injuries from the attack were the cause of the man's death, it said.
Moers - The necessary forensic medical results are still pending.
According to the statement, an arrest warrant was issued against the alleged main perpetrator, a 15-year-old, for common grievous bodily harm.
According to initial investigation results, the 15-year-old is said to have kicked the 58-year-old in the head around 6 p.m. on February 8th after the 17-year-old had pushed the man to the ground.
The 15-year-old also sprayed the other victim, a 51-year-old man, with pepper spray several times in the face.
Later he also kicked him in the head several times.
According to the statement, the 16-year-old teenager filmed the incident on his cell phone.
An attentive witness who saw the video of the crime on February 9th on a work colleague's cell phone called the police and provided information about the crime.
