Tunnel opponents from the citizens' initiative and WPS publicly declared this week that they wanted to focus more on a “new B 2” instead of a remote bypass.

In response to a request from Starnberger Merkur, the Weilheim State Building Authority has now responded.

Starnberg

- From the Maxhofkreisel via the Maisinger Gorge, the Starnberg western bypass and the Oberbrunn/Unterbrunn bypass to the Gilching junction of the A 96: The chairmen of the citizens' initiative Pro Bypass - Against Official Tunnel (BI), Dr.

Klaus Huber, and the WPS, Ralf Breitenfeldt, introduce it as “B 2 new”.

They want to get through traffic to and from Munich out of Starnberg and make the tunnel unnecessary.

At a press event on Tuesday they explained that they wanted to focus more on this option instead of building a bypass away from the town.

Huber spoke of “sparrow in hand”, Breitenfeldt said: “Times are changing.” The Starnberger Merkur asked Lukas Schulte, head of the tunnel department at the Weilheim State Building Authority.

How does the Weilheim State Building Authority feel about the idea of a “B 2 new”?

What possibilities are there to advance such a “project”?

In principle, classified streets must form a connected street network, so that the through-town route should not be completely downgraded to an urban street, even with this, in our opinion, very theoretical question.

In principle, rezoning is only an option if the traffic significance changes.

This is not the case with the Starnberg through town as a feeder to the federal highway 952.

The Federal Highway Authority decides on the dedication, reclassification and confiscation of a federal highway (Section 2 Para. 6 FStrG), insofar as the federal government is entitled to manage a federal highway.

In this case, the State Building Authority is only the executing authority.

What traffic figures are available for the use of the roads in question?

The road traffic counts can be accessed on the Internet at www.baysis.bayern.de.

The last counts are from 2022:

  • State road 2069 between Maxhofkreisel and Söcking roundabout: 9444 vehicles in 24 hours.

  • State road 2069 between Söcking roundabout and Waldkreuzung: 6876 vehicles in 24 hours.

  • State road 2069, Oberbrunn bypass: 11,498 vehicles in 24 hours.

  • B 2 between Maxhofkreisel and forest playground: 14,151 vehicles in 24 hours.

  • B 2 between the district office and the motorway: 32,874 vehicles in 24 hours.

What is the current status of the plan change process for the B 2 tunnel?

Have the documents been submitted to the government of Upper Bavaria by now or when can we expect them?

The building authority plans to send the documents for the plan change process to the government of Upper Bavaria in the first half of 2024 as soon as the remaining adjustments to the overall document have been made.
