A serious accident occurred on the A8 near Olching in the morning hours.

A young man was rescued seriously injured.

Olching – According to the Fürstenfeldbruck traffic police, a serious traffic accident occurred in the early hours of the morning on the A8 towards Munich near Olching.

A young man was seriously injured.

The highway is still closed.

For reasons that are still unclear, the 20-year-old driver from the Starnberg district drove his BMW into a Autobahnplus GmbH gritting vehicle at high speed.

Both drivers were alone in their vehicles.

Courageous first responders rescued the seriously injured driver from the badly deformed wreckage, which shortly afterwards caught fire.

The emergency services took the injured man to a nearby hospital.

The exact injuries are not yet known.

The driver of the gritting vehicle remained uninjured.

The Geiselbullach and Feldgeding volunteer fire departments were at the scene of the accident to ensure safety and fight the fire.

The motorway has been completely closed in the direction of Munich since around 2:30 a.m. and traffic has been diverted to the AS Dachau.

After the fire was put out, the vehicles stuck in a traffic jam were directed past on the hard shoulder.

Employees from the highway maintenance department and A-Plus supported the rescue and recovery work and are currently still busy cleaning the accident site from debris.

Once the rescue and cleaning work has been completed, the road will be reopened.

“An exact time cannot currently be foreseen,” writes the police in their current press release.

The material damage to the vehicles and roadway equipment is estimated at around 77,000 euros.
