A flight from London to Bucharest takes off hours late.
The reason: a pilot error with far-reaching consequences.
London – There may occasionally be delays when traveling by air.
This can have various reasons - for example strikes or the weather - and often neither the ground staff nor the crew can do anything to prevent the flight from taking off as planned.
In such a case, you should know your rights as a passenger.
However, the delay of British Airways flight BA 886 could have been completely avoided.
A serious mistake by the pilot resulted in the start being postponed by several hours.
The man accidentally triggered the plane's emergency slide.
This had serious consequences for him.
Pilot makes a serious mistake - accidentally activated emergency slide leads to chaos on flight BA 886
Once an aircraft is locked shortly before departure, it should not be reopened.
The reason for this is that locking the doors automatically activates the emergency slides.
However, the pilot of flight BA 886 apparently missed this detail.
In order to hand over a few documents to the ground staff at London's Heathrow Airport, he quickly opened the already locked doors of the Airbus.

To do this he would have had to deactivate the emergency slides again.
However, as he failed to do so, the emergency slide deployed and inflated outside the aircraft.
Rescue workers immediately rushed to Gate 24E, from where the flight was supposed to take off, as the
Sun
reported, among others.
Pictures show airport firefighters surrounding the Airbus A320.
By decelerating and deploying the emergency slide, the pilot caused £50,000 worth of damage.
Another plane actually had to make an emergency landing.
The entire fuselage was torn open.
Big mistake has consequences for pilot and passengers
According to the
Sun
, the pilot was immediately suspended from flying duties.
“The captain, of all people, should have known the safety rules surrounding opening doors.
This is more than a rookie mistake.
“That can’t really be understood,” the paper quoted the airline British Airways as saying.
The passengers also suffered from the pilot's mistake.
The flight was originally scheduled to take off at 9:55 a.m.
However, they were no longer allowed to fly with the affected aircraft.
The replacement flight took off more than three hours later at 1:15 p.m.
“We apologized to customers and organized a replacement aircraft to ensure they could continue their journey,” British Airways said.
