The second anniversary of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine is bringing people to the streets.
Demonstrations took place in various cities in North Rhine-Westphalia on Saturday.
There were many in Cologne.
Cologne - On the second anniversary of the Russian attack, several thousand people in North Rhine-Westphalia demonstrated demonstrative solidarity with Ukraine.
According to organizers, around 6,000 demonstrators took to the streets near the cathedral in Cologne in the afternoon.
Among others, the Deputy Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia, Economics Minister Mona Neubaur (Greens), and North Rhine-Westphalia Minister for Europe Nathanael Liminski were there.
The CDU politician said that the Russian regime is not only fighting against Ukraine, but also against the principles that make up Europe.
“That’s why the people of Ukraine are fighting for us,” he explained.
The rally was organized by the German-Ukrainian association Blue-Yellow Cross.
A spokesman for the association demanded that all resources should now be mobilized for Ukraine.
The demonstrators' banners read, among other things: "Russia is a terrorist state" and "Weapons for Ukraine."
According to the police, around 500 people demonstrated in Aachen on Saturday, and a solidarity demonstration also took place in Bielefeld, which led to the town hall.
Further rallies were planned in Siegen and Düsseldorf.
