New accommodation for asylum seekers is being built in Emmering.

The first refugees will move into the former Bösl guesthouse at the beginning of March.

The district office has concluded a five-year rental agreement with the owner.

Emmering - Around 100 visitors came to the community center on Thursday evening to be informed by Mayor Stefan Floerecke about the district office's plans.

According to the head of the town hall, the former guest house on Dr.-Rank-Straße will accommodate 40 refugees.

Floerecke emphasized that he supports decentralized accommodation.

The building is also well suited.

“It’s better than in a gym or in containers.”

Lots of wrong documents

The mayor also gave the visitors an overview of the current situation.

There are currently 53 asylum seekers living in Emmering.

These are also housed decentrally.

There are no problems.

However, the fact that 46 of the 53 people are so-called incorrect applicants is definitely a problem.

This means that they already have a residence permit, but are still living in the refugee accommodation because they cannot find an apartment.

Theoretically, the district office could throw them out the door straight away.

In this case, people would be homeless.

The municipality would then have the obligation to accommodate them.

“We have already bought camp beds,” said Florecke.

You want to be prepared.

But he doesn't assume that the authorities will simply throw the residents out on the streets.

At the Rewe

What will certainly not happen is the construction of a container accommodation for refugees next to the Rewe market.

A company there had planned to build rooms for a larger number of asylum seekers.

This was prevented for building law reasons.

The local government wants to establish additional retail there.

Since concerns and fears about the accommodation in the Bösl guesthouse had been brought to his attention in advance, Florecke appealed to view the plans without prejudice.

So far there have never been any problems.

He also thanked the asylum helpers group - and promptly received applause.

Anyone who has reservations should put themselves in the situation of the refugees: “They are people like all of us.”

Residents have concerns

Still, some visitors expressed concerns.

A resident of Dr.-Rank-Straße reported that there are already some people living there who often misbehave.

“It has already been stolen.” She is worried that the problems will increase with even more people.

Floerecke asked that possible problems be reported.

If necessary, a security service will be deployed.

More containers from the table

Another resident pointed out that the area was quite littered.

Everything possible is already being dumped there.

“This is a garbage dump,” the woman said.

She asked that the place be cleaned up as soon as possible.

The mayor explained that the littered area was largely private property.

The community has no control over this.

The town hall boss was able to calm down another resident.

He explained that he had noticed that containers were to be set up near the guest house.

As Floerecke explained, the community has an area there where containers for the homeless can be set up.

However, these plans are off the table for the time being.
