The demolition of the silos in the port of Ancona has begun in recent days, as part of the Eagle project by Fmg (Frittelli Maritime Group), a territorial regeneration intervention of an area abandoned for about 13 years in the port and subject to environmental remediation.

Some of the silos, silent witnesses of the city's historical memory, will be preserved as a symbol of industrial archaeology, while the rest of the former Bunge area is preparing to be transformed into a modern, efficient and sustainable space.

    The project was launched a year ago: in 12 months various activities were completed: decommissioning of the site with the demolition of the buildings for approximately 80 thousand cubic meters in total;

recognition of the non-contamination of the soil and the consequent suitability for redevelopment; recovery of several tons of materials for reuse such as iron, wood, paper, plastic, fiber cement and various metals and disposal of waste such as compact, friable asbestos and glassy artificial fibres.

    Also during the year, the first warehouse in the former Sfir area was renovated and made operational, renamed FmgLogistics 2, which today serves as a logistics hub for shipbuilding.

The design of the reconstruction work, which will begin next April, has been entrusted to the engineering company We Plan Group of Osimo.

According to Michele Baleani, CEO of We Plan, Eagle "will not only have a positive impact on the physical structure of the airport, but also on the entire Ancona community, enhancing the cultural heritage of the city".

"We are preparing for the reconstruction phase - comments the president of Fmg Alberto Rossi -: this too will be a challenging and important moment to which I hope that all the parties involved will give the right importance and offer their adequate contribution".
